What is "True Art"? In all honesty, I’ve never liked this question. Art teachers will often ask you what your definition of art is, or even to come up with an example of what art is not, and I do respect their opinions. On the other hand, I’ve always struggled with the idea that we must limit our definition of art To me, art is the pure expression of the self. It is part of your soul exposed for all to see. Art is terrifying, and frustrating, and something we could not hope to function without.
I do not believe that art has to be aesthetically pleasing, or have a deep meaning behind it--although I believe all art does have some meaning. If you create a painting and get something, anything, out of the experience, you have created art. Some may say that this means that everything could be considered art, and to this I say: why not? Look at the plants, at the sky in all its hues, at the waterfall that dissipates into mist. Listen to the birds, to the rain, to the ocean breathing life onto the shore. Art is everywhere we find meaning. Art is love.
