Knowing what gives you “good vibes” versus what drags you down is the first step in improving your energy and moving towards a more enjoyable life. Part of this is knowing what you attract. The law of attraction just means that whatever you’re receiving in your life is the same energy you’re putting out into the universe, either consciously or (more likely) subconsciously.
This does not mean that traumatic experiences are your fault! Abusive relationships, mental illness, or catastrophes are not a result of you somehow asking this negativity to enter your life. An example of the law of attraction: I had a friend complain to me on the phone for a solid twenty minutes the other day about how another friend was being negative and refusing to focus on her work--everything he was doing. He was feeling upset, frustrated and unfocused, and attracted people and circumstances that kept him feeling this way. This article by Jessica Dimas does a great job of explaining the law of attraction, as well as how to utilize it to improve your relationships with other people. Aside from the law of attraction, there are several other things which can impact your energy. By being aware of them, and by doing what you can to bring light into your life, you can improve your energy. Media - I know that when I spend too much time on social media, I get drained. Negative stories from the news, both on social media and in other media, like TV or books, can completely change your perception and mood. Food - A balanced diet is important, so if you’re feeling bad, ask yourself: have I eaten or drank water recently? Have I eaten something healthy recently? If remembering to drink water is a problem for you, keeping a reusable bottle near where you spend most of your time is helpful. Keeping simple, easy-to-prepare, healthy meals and snacks on-hand is one of the ways I can continue eating healthy even when I’m too tired to cook (and the boba tea shop just down the street from my house starts looking really nice). Exercise - This ties into the point above. Taking care of your physical body is just as important as taking care of your mental health, and it doesn’t have to be strenuous. I’m very anxious about the concept of visiting the gym, so I get my exercise through short walks and yoga; when the weather is warmer, or I’ve been blessed with a little extra energy that day, I’ll try for something more strenuous--hiking, swimming, biking, or even weightlifting with a small handheld set at home. Listen to your body and don’t push yourself more than is healthy, but if you have the ability to exercise, it’s been shown to improve your mood and overall mental health. Environment - An environment full of fear, excess or negative stimuli, or negative energy can all contribute to lowering your mood. Letting nature in--sunshine and fresh air, in particular--as well as making sure your space is clean helps combat this. Limiting stimuli that drains or upsets me is also essential for when I’m looking to improve my mood. Gratitude - Finally, seeking an “attitude of gratitude” has greatly helped me to increase positivity in my life. In my article “Three Habits to Make Your Life Happier,” I touch on finding gratitude, but here’s the gist of it: you can’t be happy all of the time, but finding things in your life to be grateful for helps. Finding gratitude means finding a life of abundance, even when on the surface, nothing has changed. For me, laughter, nature, self-care, and connecting with those I love helps me cultivate gratitude and find abundance. How do you improve your energy? Do you have any advice for those seeking better energy in their life? I'd love to hear about it in the comments section down below!
